Chapter 8 · When someone books
The client portal
Every client gets a portal on your website, where they see their session, sign, pay and open their photos.
Here you sign in as Heather Collins to see what she sees. At the end, clients put the portal on their phone or computer like an app.
Have this ready
- A client login. Mankai creates one when someone books and emails them a link to choose a password.
Step by step
Get there
Go to
/account/on your website and sign in.
The overview
The client lands on Overview. The big heading is their next or most recent session, with the date, time and place.
Under it, one row per part of the session: payment, contract, questionnaire and photos. A green tick means done.
A row that still needs the client shows a button instead, such as Pay.
Invoice, questionnaire and photos
Press View invoice on the payment row.
The invoice shows what was charged and paid. Press Exit invoice at the top left to go back.
Download at the top right saves a copy.
Back on Overview, press View questionnaire.
Read the answers the client gave, then press Exit questionnaire.
Back on Overview, press Open on the photos row.
The gallery opens with your studio name and the gallery title. Press Open gallery to see and download the photos.
Messages and account
Back on Overview, press Messages at the top.
This is the same conversation you see in Mankai. See Message a client.
Press the round picture with their initials to reach Account, Account activity and Log Out.
Which device will your client use?
iPhone or iPad
The portal can sit on a client's Home Screen and open full screen, with no Safari bars. Apple does not let a website install itself, so the client adds it from the Share menu. Apple explains it in Add a website to your Home Screen.
Get there
Open Safari, go to
/account/on your website and sign in.
Set it up
Tap Share in the Safari toolbar.
Scroll down the list, tap Add to Home Screen, then tap Add at the top right.
Open the new icon from the Home Screen. It opens full screen, as in the picture.
You're done when
The portal has its own icon on the Home Screen and opens without Safari bars.
Android
In Chrome, the client installs the portal from the browser menu. Google explains it in Use web apps in Chrome.
Get there
Open Chrome, go to
/account/on your website and sign in.
Set it up
Tap the three dots at the top right of Chrome, then tap Add to home screen or Install app.
Tap Install and confirm.
Open the new icon from the home screen. It opens full screen, as in the picture.
You're done when
The portal has its own icon on the home screen and opens without Chrome bars.
Computer
Chrome and Edge can install the portal as an app with its own window. Google explains the browser side in Use web apps in Chrome, and Microsoft in Install, manage, or uninstall apps in Edge.
Get there
Open Chrome or Edge, go to
/account/on your website and sign in.
Set it up
In Chrome, open the menu at the top right, choose Cast, save, and share, then Install page as app.
In Edge, open Settings and more, then choose Apps, then Install this site as an app.
Open the app from the Start menu, Launchpad or taskbar. It opens in its own window on Overview.
You're done when
The portal has its own icon and its own window, separate from the browser tabs.
You're done when
You have seen the portal the way a client does, and you know how a client puts it on a phone or computer. Next, make a gallery.
If something's not right
A client forgot their password
They press Lost your password? on the sign-in page and choose a new one from the email.
The row has a button such as Pay instead of a tick
The client still has something to do. Pressing the button takes them straight to what is waiting.
Does my client need to install anything?
No. The portal works in any browser. Installing it is only a shortcut.
