Chapter 5 · Card payments
How you know a payment arrived
When a client pays an invoice, Mankai does the paperwork. The invoice turns Paid, a payment record appears, and the payment shows in your Activity list.
These screens follow an invoice for Jessica Miller that was paid in full. A payment made by card through Stripe or PayPal leaves the same trail without you typing anything.
Have this ready
- An invoice that has been paid. Your first one comes after Send an invoice.
Step by step
Get there
Move your mouse over Money in the top bar.
Press Invoices in the menu that opens.
The invoice turns Paid
Find the paid invoice in the list on the left and press it.
Look at the top right of the invoice. The badge says Paid.
Scroll down the invoice. Balance due is $0.00, and Payments received lists the payment.
The payment record
Move your mouse over Money again and press Payments.
Press the payment in the list.
Read the top of the window that opens: the amount, Completed, and how it was paid.
The activity list
Move your mouse over Studio and press Activity.
Press the Search icon, then type the client's name. The lines show the payment and the receipt email Mankai sent.
A payment you record yourself reads like Sarah Bennett recorded a $276.55 payment from Jessica Miller.
You're done when
The invoice says Paid, the payment says Completed, and Activity shows the payment and its receipt email. That is everything a payment should leave behind.
If something's not right
The invoice still says Balance due after a card payment
Mankai hears about card payments from Stripe or PayPal through the webhook you added. Check the webhook steps in Connect Stripe or PayPal. Without a Stripe signing secret, Mankai only catches up every three hours.
Can I try a card payment before going live?
Yes. With Stripe in Test mode, pay one of your own invoices from the client portal with the test card 4242 4242 4242 4242, any future date and any three digits. PayPal's Sandbox works the same way with a sandbox test account.
