Chapter 1 · Install Mankai
Before you install
Mankai runs on your own WordPress website, so check that the site is ready before you install it. You only read four numbers off a screen and change nothing.
Mankai needs WordPress 6.4 or newer, PHP 8.1 or newer, and one regular site. If you host with one of the recommended hosts, every check will already pass.
Have this ready
- A WordPress website that you host yourself, where you can add your own plugins.
- Your WordPress login, as an administrator.
Step by step
Get there
Sign in to WordPress and press Dashboard at the top of the menu.
Press Updates, which is listed just under Dashboard.
Check your WordPress version
On the WordPress Updates page, read the number after Current version. It must be 6.4 or higher.
Look lower on the page. You have the latest version of WordPress means this check is done.
If WordPress says a newer version is available instead, press its update button before you install Mankai, and take a backup first.
Open Site Health
In the menu on the left, press Tools, then Site Health.
Press the Info tab at the top of the page.
The page opens on Status, which is a different report. The numbers you need are on Info.
Check that this is one regular site
Press WordPress to open that section. A list of facts about your site drops down.
Find Is this a multisite? It must say No.
A multisite is a network of several websites run from one WordPress. Mankai needs a regular single site.
Check your PHP version and upload limit
Scroll down the list and press Server.
Find PHP version. It must start with 8.1 or higher. 8.2 and 8.3 are the comfortable choices.
The number has more digits than 8.2 because it is the exact release your host runs. Only the first two numbers matter.
A few rows lower, find Upload max filesize. It should say 64M or more.
You're done when
WordPress is 6.4 or newer, Is this a multisite? says No, PHP is 8.1 or newer, and Upload max filesize is 64M or more. Next, install and activate Mankai.
If something's not right
My PHP version is lower than 8.1
Ask your host to switch your site to PHP 8.2 or 8.3. Many hosts let you do it yourself in their control panel under PHP version.
Is this a multisite? says Yes
Mankai needs a regular single site. Ask your host for a separate WordPress site for your studio, then run these checks again there.
My upload limit is smaller than 64M
Ask your host to raise Upload max filesize to at least 64M. It is a quick change for them.
